Comprised of licensed psychologists, doctoral level mental health counselors and nutritionists, the Boswell Center provides a full scope of clinical services within a centralized, easily accessible framework. Referral to the Boswell Center assures both patient and physician of complete and convenient therapeutic care.
Internal Medicine
Your patients face a variety of health challenges: diabetes, heart disease, depression/anxiety, obesity, eating disorders and chronic pain. Life stressors can create and/or contribute to health problems. The multidisciplinary nature of The Boswell Center is suited to address the psychological and lifestyle issues related to these illnesses.
Cardiology
Research indicates that many patients with heart disease suffer depression, particularly following Myocardial Infarction. However, those who receive psychological services, including psychoactive medication, are more likely to significantly improve quality of life outcomes. Our Cardiac Rehabilitation services are delivered within a cognitive-behavioral framework, which creates a positive lifestyle change. This includes support for the patient and family, and nutritional planning and support.
Pediatrics
Children and their parents may face a variety of challenges - depression/anxiety, eating disorders, and attention deficient and behavior problems - which can interrupt the healthy development of the child. In addition, overweight children and adolescents carry an increased risk of conditions that were previously seen only in the overweight and obese adult: heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and Type 2 diabetes, to name a few. The multidisciplinary nature of The Boswell Center is designed to assist children and their families in overcoming such obstacles.
Obesity-related Illness
Obesity and even moderate overweight conditions are now prevalent among children as well as adults. Through numerous studies on the effects of obesity on overall health, the medical community has concluded significant health gains may be accomplished by relatively modest weight loss (5-10% of body weight).
The specialists at The Boswell Center work closely with your patients so that they are successful in accomplishing weight loss and maintaining healthful habits. The Families In Balance™ and Bodies In Balance™ Programs are designed to help the individual "own" and internalize healthful habits for a lifetime. In the case of the child, the family is educated to become a supportive agent of change. The multidisciplinary nature of these programs address all areas related to successful weight loss.
When I refer a patient to Families in Balance™, what can they expect?
Your patient and his/her parents will meet with Dr. Boswell and
the family therapist for an initial evaluation. During this evaluation
the family is educated about reasonable expectations and the need
to commit as a family to a lifestyle change. Next, a registered
dietitian will conduct a comprehensive evaluation including MedGem™,
which will assist in the development of a personalized menu plan.
The patient and his/her family have regular sessions with the
above weight loss team to ensure continued motivation and compliance
with the program. Weekly team meetings to evaluate the patient's
progress are conducted to ensure seamless delivery of service.
Daily support and feedback continue throughout the duration of
the program. For more information: Families

What is a Multidisciplinary Practice?
A patient of the Boswell Center for Life Enrichment will experience the benefit of a team of professionals personally assembled by Dr. Boswell for their contribution to the goal of overall patient wellness. Our Specialists, whose talents are complementary, provide a more comprehensive level of care than that which can be provided by a solo practitioner alone. The multidisciplinary approach takes the whole individual into account so the individual can focus on his/her plan and not have to seek out treatment from different practitioners.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is an acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a successful and innovative clinical treatment for persons who have experienced abuse, domestic violence, combat, crime, and other traumatic events.
Many non-EMDR therapists are suggesting clients try EMDR as a useful adjunct to current therapy. Further, EMDR is proving useful in treating a number of other clinical concerns including depressions, addictions, phobias, and a variety of self-esteem issues. The process can help persons who find themselves "stuck" in maladaptive ways of thinking or perceiving.
